Lawcurgus: AI-enabled Legal Practice Management Platform

AI-enabled Legal Practice Management Platform

We built Lawcurgus, a cloud practice management platform that puts case work, time, billing, client money and accounting in one system for small and medium law firms in the United Kingdom.

Lawcurgus case study

The Challenge

What stood in the way.

Each matter creates linked records, often kept in four or five separate tools: case notes, Outlook, a shared drive, spreadsheets and an accounts package. People link them by hand, so staff re-key data

Scattered matter information

Time is lost searching across tools, and deadlines are missed.

Duplicate data entry

Re-keying creates unbillable admin and records that disagree with each other.

Late time recording

Work recorded after the fact is often never charged.

Billing separate from finance

Invoicing is slow and client-money errors creep in when billing and accounts live in different systems.

Our Solution

How we answered it.

We started from the matter, not the module. Lawcurgus makes the client and matter the single operating record, with legal work modules on one side, finance modules on the other, management dashboards above and governance controls underneath.

  • ProblemFirms work across many practice areas, and single-practice tools cannot cover them all.
Our answerWe built one configurable model in which the firm sets its own practice areas, case types, activities, KYC checks and document templates.
  • ProblemTime recorded late is time that never gets billed.
Our answerWe put "Log Activity" on every screen with a built-in timer, and every entry carries its rate and VAT so it is ready to invoice against the case.
  • ProblemKeeping billing and accounts apart leads to client-money errors.
Our answerLawcurgus runs a double-entry ledger with separate office and client accounts, every ledger line keeps its matter and client, and alerts flag items that need attention.
  • ProblemFirms need evidence of the AML and KYC checks they perform.
Our answerLawyers record checks from the firm's KYC library and upload supporting documents to the client record. Lawcurgus keeps the records; it does not carry out automated identity verification

How It Works

The parts that made the difference.

Cases and clients

Clients can be people or companies with multiple contacts and linked matters. Each case carries its practice area, responsible solicitor, limitation date, budget, billing terms and access settings.

Time and disbursements

A built-in timer and "Log Activity" on every screen capture work as it happens. Activity codes, rates, VAT and a billable flag give the total instantly.

Invoicing

Invoices are raised per case and linked to the client and matter, with due dates and outstanding balances tracked.

Double-entry accounting

A real chart of accounts keeps office and client money in separate system ledgers, alongside firm operating expenses.

Results

What changed for the client.

Lawcurgus is live with its core modules and designed to deliver six outcomes, each measured against the firm's own baseline. Firms using it say matters, documents and financial activity are easier to find

  • One view of every matter, with less searching and fewer missed deadlines
  • Work flows to revenue: time recorded against a matter carries through to the invoice
  • Finance has legal context, with every ledger line linked to its matter and client for faster reconciliation
  • Client money controlled through separate ledgers and alerts, lowering regulatory risk
  • The same process in every office
  • Early warnings when matters run over budget
